In many rural communities across Kayunga District, young people grow up with limited access to technology, innovation spaces, and mentorship opportunities. While the world continues to advance through digital transformation, many youth in underserved communities are still excluded from the skills and experiences needed to participate in that future.
At BaNgaAfayo Initiative Uganda, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, create, and dream beyond their circumstances. Through our Robotics program at the BaNgaAfayo Community Center in Kayunga, we are creating safe, free, and accessible environment where young people in rural communities of Kayunga can explore technology through hands-on learning and innovation.

Creating Opportunities through Robotics
Our robotics program introduces rural children and youth to practical technology-based learning experiences that encourage creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. Through interactive sessions at BaNgaAfayo Community Center in Kayunga, participants learn how to build simple robotic projects, explore digital tools, and develop skills that prepare them for an increasingly technology-driven world.
For many children, this is their first experience engaging directly with robotics and digital innovation. The program helps transform technology from something distant and unfamiliar into something exciting, achievable, and empowering.
Beyond technical learning, robotics activities encourage young people to:
- Think critically and solve problems creatively
- Build confidence and communication skills
- Work collaboratively with others
- Improve concentration and mental focus
- Develop curiosity and a love for learning
- Gain exposure to future career possibilities in technology and innovation
These skills are not only important for education, but also for personal growth and future opportunities.
Gladys’ Journey
Gladys grew up in a rural community where access to technology and mentorship opportunities was extremely limited. Like many young people in Kayunga, she had very little exposure to innovation spaces or digital learning opportunities.
Through the robotics program, Gladys discovered a new environment where she could learn, experiment, and express herself freely. What started as curiosity gradually became confidence.
Today, Gladys actively participates in robotics sessions, collaborates with other young people, and approaches challenges with greater creativity and determination. The program has strengthened her problem-solving abilities, teamwork skills, and self-belief.

More importantly, it has opened a new path of hope and possibility. Gladys now sees opportunities beyond the limitations of her immediate environment and believes she can play a role in shaping her future through learning and innovation.
Her story reflects the potential that exists in many rural young people when they are given access to opportunity, guidance, and encouragement.
Why Free Access Matters

One of the core values of this program is accessibility. All robotics activities are offered completely free of charge so that every young person, regardless of their background or financial situation, can participate.
In many communities, economic barriers prevent children and youth from accessing technology education. By removing these barriers, we ensure that talent and potential are not limited by income or geography.
Creating an inclusive learning environment at BaNgaAfayo Community Center allows more rural young people to participate, grow, and discover abilities they may never have realized they had.
The Impact on Youth in Kayunga
The Robotics program is already creating meaningful change in the lives of young people across Kayunga. Participants are gaining practical digital skills, building confidence, improving social interaction, and developing a stronger sense of purpose.
Parents and community members are also seeing positive changes in the attitudes and behavior of participating youth, including:
- Increased confidence and self-esteem
- Greater interest in education and learning
- Improved collaboration and communication
- Better focus and discipline
- Stronger motivation to pursue future opportunities
By investing in technology and innovation learning, we are helping prepare young people not only for today, but for the future.
