A football match can do more than entertain it can open minds, build confidence, and inspire young people to make life-changing decisions.

That is exactly what happened during our latest Play- Based Football session in the rural communities of Kayunga under the theme “Youth Against Alcohol.”
As the games unfolded, young people laughed, competed, and worked together. But beyond every pass and every goal, they were exploring important conversations about the dangers of alcohol and the choices that shape their futures.

Through interactive football activities, participants learned about Alcohol Confusion, Support, the Consequences of Alcohol Abuse, and the power of Teamwork. Rather than listening to a coach, they experienced these lessons through play, making learning enjoyable, memorable, and relevant to their everyday lives.

The discussions encouraged participants to reflect on how alcohol can affect their health, education, relationships, and future opportunities. They also discovered that choosing positive friendships, supporting one another, and standing together as a team can help them resist peer pressure and make healthier decisions.

One of the most powerful outcomes of the session was seeing young people become champions for change. Equipped with new knowledge and greater confidence, they left the football field ready to share these messages with their peers, encourage alcohol-free lifestyles, and promote healthier choices within their communities.

At BaNgaAfayo, we believe every football pitch can become a classroom and every game an opportunity to shape brighter futures. Through Sports for Change, we are using the power of play to raise informed, confident, and resilient young people who are leading positive change across the rural communities of Kayunga.
