Poor families benefit from holiday food baskets

For 11 months of the year Beatrice, 43, can barely make ends meet. But as Christmas approaches, it is much harder for the widow and single mother of five children from Nakaziba a remote village in Kayunga District of Uganda, who lost her husband early this year and currently unemployed.

“It’s really difficult,” says Beatrice. “My children did not get their report cards from school last month because I’ve not yet finished school fees (300,000 UGX needed at school, about $90 USD) and yet holidays will be ending soon for them to go back to school. Then the kids tell me about the toys and clothes they want for Christmas, it’s so hard when you know you can’t afford it.”

This year, things were made a little easier for Beatrice and her children as they were among the 50 families who received a basket packed with food and supplies from BaNgaAfayo Initiative Uganda. Her Children were also among the children from our community who got gifts and toys this Christmas, thanks to our generous supporters who made this possible.

Food baskets for low income families is a team work effort that for the last 3 years we have been doing to benefit families in need in our community. These baskets contain everything that is necessary to prepare a family dinner on Easter or Christmas Day and supplies to last for the entire holiday.

BaNgaAfayo together with our supporters, friends and donors have brought a lot of happy moments to poor families in Nakaziba village since 2015.

We invite those interested in supporting this work, to do that through sponsorship, donating food or joining as volunteers on the day we distribute the baskets. There is no doubt that together we can make a difference.
