Innovative Solutions for Early Childhood Literacy: Our Partnership with The Book Drive Store

ba nga afayo initiative uganda

At Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda, we take a cradle-to-career approach, supporting children at every stage of their development—from early childhood through to meaningful employment. We understand that building a strong foundation in literacy during the earliest years is critical for long-term educational success and career readiness.

That’s why we are proud to partner with The Book Drive Store, an initiative by The Read to Learn Foundation, to empower youth in Kayunga District to create literacy tools and toys that enhance early education. This partnership directly complements our approach by equipping young people with hands-on skills, while simultaneously providing marginalized children with the vital learning resources they need to thrive.

Together, we’re investing in the whole child’s journey—starting with early literacy as the stepping stone for a lifetime of growth, learning, and opportunity.

Building Skills, Building Futures

Our collaboration centers on a unique, hands-on approach: training adolescents and young women to use local materials to produce literacy toys that will help marginalized children develop critical early learning skills. This initiative is not only about creating educational resources but also about equipping youth with valuable vocational skills that boost their confidence and future employability.

A Community-Driven Approach

The production takes place at our community center in Kayunga, where young people come together in a supportive environment. This space embodies our vision of an inclusive community hub where local partners and youth collaborate to build a brighter future.

Our Teen Teachers have embraced their roles as literacy champions — transforming local materials into creative tools that make learning fun and accessible. This project perfectly complements our existing Teen Teacher Program, where young people step up to fill gaps in early childhood education in rural Uganda.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mago Hasfa, founder of Read to Learn Foundation, and the entire team at The Book Drive Store for their invaluable support and partnership.

Together, we are not just making toys; we are nurturing a generation of learners, leaders, and change-makers.
