On August 15, 2025, Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda proudly joined the world in commemorating International Youth Day under the theme: “Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future.” Our Community Center in Kayunga came alive with music, energy, and powerful conversations as young people took the lead in shaping the day’s celebrations.
Kicking Off with Zumba: Movement for Confidence & Joy
The day began with an energizing Zumba session, led by one of our youth champions. This was more than just dance—it was a reminder of the power of movement in promoting well-being, confidence, and community spirit. It set the tone for a celebration that was not only about words, but about joy and connection.
Showcasing Talent: Cultural Dance & Performances
Our cultural dance performance lit up the stage and reminded us of the importance of nurturing children’s passions through our cradle-to-career approach. For many parents in attendance, it was the first time they had seen their children perform with such confidence, creativity, and pride in their cultural identity. This moment captured what youth empowerment is truly about—creating spaces for young people to express themselves and explore their potential.
Dialogue & Reflection: The Voice of the Youth
Throughout the day, young people engaged in discussions on the challenges that hinder their empowerment and the opportunities they need to build a sustainable future. With courage and clarity, they asked their parents, guardians, and community to believe in them. This heartfelt call was one of the most moving parts of the day, reminding us all that empowerment begins with trust and support at home.
The Power of Sport: Football for Change
We closed the celebrations with a football match, featuring both boys’ and girls’ teams. The games symbolized the unifying power of sport and its role in teaching teamwork, resilience, and leadership. For Ba Nga Afayo, sport is more than recreation—it is a tool for creating sustainable change and breaking barriers, especially for girls in rural communities.
A Day to Remember
International Youth Day 2025 was not only a celebration of achievements but also a vision of what is possible when young people are supported, believed in, and given safe spaces to grow. Parents left inspired by their children’s courage, while youth left with renewed confidence that their voices matter.
At Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda, we remain committed to walking alongside children and youth—empowering them from cradle to career to build a sustainable future for themselves and their communities.
Together, we are raising a generation of confident, creative, and empowered leaders.
