Little Words, Big Dreams: Empowering Young Minds Through Literacy

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, express themselves, and discover their potential. Yet, many children in rural schools have limited platforms to showcase their abilities, build confidence, and explore learning beyond the classroom.

On 22nd October 2026, BaNgaAfayo Initiative Uganda hosted the 2nd Edition of the Great Words Adventure at BaNgaAfayo Community Center in Kayunga District, bringing together learners from rural schools for a celebration of literacy, communication, and young talent.

Celebrating Literacy in Rural Kayunga

Under the theme “Little Words, Big Dreams: Empowering Young Minds Through Literacy,” learners in Primary 1– 4 showcased their literacy and communication skills, shared ideas, and built confidence through healthy competition.

The event also featured entertainment that brought joy, laughter, and energy to the day. Alongside the literacy activities, children enjoyed fun moments that allowed them to connect with their peers and celebrate their achievements. This blend of learning, friendly competition, and entertainment made the Great Words Adventure an engaging and memorable experience for the young participants.

Building Strong Foundations for the Future

Literacy is more than the ability to read and write. It helps children communicate clearly, express their ideas, and participate confidently in learning.

Through our Cradle-to-Career approach, BaNgaAfayo supports children and young people in rural Kayunga as they grow, develop skills, and prepare for future opportunities. Building strong literacy foundations is an important step towards lifelong learning and personal development.

The Great Words Adventure provided learners with an opportunity to practice their skills, discover their strengths, and learn from one another in a supportive environment.

Celebrating Rural Talent and the Power of Place

Children in rural Kayunga have talent, ideas, and big dreams. They deserve opportunities to demonstrate their abilities regardless of where they come from.

By bringing the Great Words Adventure to Kayunga, BaNgaAfayo created a platform where rural learners could participate in an enriching educational experience within their own community, without having to travel to the city.

This reflects our Power Of Place commitment: bringing meaningful opportunities closer to rural children and celebrating the potential that already exists within their communities.

A highlight of the event was celebrating the winners. Ndeeba Primary School’s champions took home the trophy, while other winners received golden medals in recognition of their achievements. Congratulations to all the winners and participants!
