On 11 September 2026, Kayunga came alive with creativity and innovation as BaNgaAfayo hosted the 1st Rural Robotics Competition, bringing together rural young innovators under the theme “From Local Challenges to Local Solutions.”

For us, the competition was more than a robotics event. It was Cradle-toCareer in action.

At BaNgaAfayo, our Cradle-to-Career approach supports children and young people from early learning and education through skills development, mentorship, leadership and future opportunities. We believe every stage of a young person’s journey should build toward greater confidence, skills and possibilities.

The competition created one of those opportunities. Young people moved beyond learning about technology to building, experimenting and solving real community challenges.

We celebrated Esther, our champion with a Smart Walking Stick; Gertrude, our first runner-up with a Biometric Security System; and Joshua, our second runner-up with a Smart Water Distribution System. Alongside them were many other young innovators whose ideas and participation made the competition meaningful.

These young people are not only learning they are developing the skills, confidence and problem-solving mindset they can carry into their education, careers and communities.

That is the purpose of our Cradle-to-Career journey is to help young people move from learning to skills, from skills to opportunity, and from opportunity to meaningful futures.

The Rural Robotics Competition is one step in that journey.

From the earliest years of learning to the possibilities of tomorrow, we are building pathways for Kayunga’s young people to learn, lead, create and thrive.
