A football pitch can be more than a place to play it can be a place where young people learn lessons that shape their future.

At BaNgaAfayo Initiative Uganda, that’s exactly what happened during our Sports for Change session under the theme “My Health” at Ndeeba Secondary School in Kayunga.
As students passed the ball, encouraged their teammates, and worked together, they also took part in honest conversations about HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the importance of making informed decisions. Football created a safe and engaging environment where learning felt natural, encouraging students to ask questions, share experiences, and reflect on the choices that influence their health and future.

The impact reached far beyond the final whistle. Students left with a better understanding of how to protect themselves from HIV and STIs, the confidence to challenge myths and stigma, and the motivation to make healthy choices. They also discovered that teamwork, respect, and communication are not only essential on the football pitch they are equally important in making responsible decisions and building healthier lives.

At BaNgaAfayo Initiative Uganda, we don’t just use football to develop skills on the pitch. We use it to empower young people with knowledge, confidence, and the courage to make choices that keep them healthy, stay focused on their goals, and become positive influences in their schools and communities.

Because when sport becomes a classroom, every game has the power to change a life.
