Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) through a recent HER Voice Fund leadership training by Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda, the AGYW successfully organized their first peer activity on 24 July 2023. During this event, they skillfully conducted sessions on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), including topics like HIV prevention and menstrual hygiene. Engaging their peers actively, they shared knowledge and promoted healthy behaviors. Besides, the AGYW addressed other crucial SRHR subjects like STI awareness, abstinence, gender-based violence and improved access to healthcare services. This event marked a significant step towards a healthier and empowered future for all.
The AGYW leadership training equipped these young women with essential tools to create a positive impact on their lives and communities. The peer activity showcased their growth as they confidently led sessions on SRHR topics. Their effective communication about HIV prevention and menstrual hygiene left a lasting impression on their peers, ensuring better understanding and well-being.
Apart from addressing HIV prevention and menstrual hygiene, the AGYW focused on other critical SRHR areas. They passionately discussed different topics, helping their peers make informed choices about reproductive health. Sessions on STI awareness protected their overall well-being, while tackling gender-based violence created a sense of empowerment and advocacy against this issue.
