Technology & Employment

Our Employment and Technology Programs prepare rural youth for careers in STEM, design and multimedia fields. Youth learn to use cutting-edge technologies, gain entrepreneur skills and career-ready skills and grow a network of professional contacts.

Through our own Truth Design Academy, we address the pressing challenges of youth unemployment, poverty, and limited access to education in marginalized communities of Uganda by offering affordable and practical short accredited courses in high-demand fields like graphic design, video editing & production, Web design and Still Photography.

Inspired by the academic approach at many Universities, Truth Design Academy unlocks a learning experience based on a student’s “major” or focus area.

Students enjoy an immersive experience — learning from industry professionals, pursuing real-world projects, and leveraging internship and networking opportunities.

BaNgaAfayo also offers a range of additional services to ensure students excel in their chosen fields and beyond.

The Challenge

The opportunity gap is one of the widest-reaching issues in our society today. It is the way factors uncontrollable by an individual can contribute to lower rates of success in educational achievement, career prospects and other life aspirations.

In Uganda, 3 out of 5 young people are unemployed. This harsh reality, compounded by high poverty levels among the youth and limited access to higher education due to financial constraints, perpetuates cycles of poverty and hinders personal and economic advancement for countless young people especially girls and young women in rural communities.

Back to School Program

Play Video

The Back to School Program ensures that children from low-income families in our area receive the tools they need to succeed in school. This includes backpacks stuffed with grade level supplies for children plus sanitary towels for teenage girls in our programs and those from poverty stricken families. Thanks to generous people like you, the program has so far reached over 3000 students.

The Back to School Program is one of many ways that Ba Nga Afayo Initiative is working to keep families in stable housing, supplying them with the assistance needed to free up financial resources to pay rent and grow some food. The program also provides relief to families worried about the extra expense, and joy to children as they prepare for a great year ahead.

In the coming years we are looking forward to serving even more children, schools, and communities that need the support to help young learners succeed in the classroom. We continually seek partnerships with new donors and organizations dedicated to making a difference in the educational sphere while keeping our current bonds as strong as ever. While we, as an organization, have learned every step of the way, we still have much learning to do. We will continue to champion education for students in need and make it a priority to establish equality in the classroom, persisting to challenge the income disparities children face to improve educational opportunities and academic outcomes.
