Her Voice Community dialogue for AGYW: Raising Voices to break barriers

On Wednesday, 18th January 2023, Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda (BaNgaAfayo) held a community dialogue with key decision makers in the Kayunga District to discuss the importance of HIV/AIDS services and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). This event was part of the Her Voice Fund project, which aims to empower AGYW, particularly those living with HIV, by providing them with the knowledge, attitude, and skills they need to reduce HIV infections, gender-based violence (GBV), and improve their SRHR outcomes.

One of the major goals of the Her Voice Fund project is to challenge negative social norms and practices that negatively impact SRHR outcomes for AGYW. BaNgaAfayo is working to empower these young women with leadership skills that will enable them to demand accountability from their local and national government for their health needs, and to ensure that SRHR issues are given priority in the district health budget.

By actively involving AGYW in the planning and implementation of their own healthcare, BaNgaAfayo is working to empower these young women to take control of their own health and well-being. This is an important step towards reducing HIV infections and GBV, and improving the overall SRHR outcomes for AGYW in the Kayunga District.

Overall, the Her Voice Fund project and the community dialogue held by BaNgaAfayo are important steps towards ensuring that AGYW have a say in the decisions that affect their lives and that their health needs are given the attention and resources they deserve. We are excited to see the impact that this project will have on the lives of AGYW in the Kayunga District and beyond.
