Child Protection
We believe every child deserves to be protected from violence, live a full life, and have the chance to grow and learn so that they may reach their full potential.
Where we work, we build a safety net of loving people to protect children, prevent harm and ensure that those who are harmed receive the help they need to recover.
Why we do what we do
We are working hard to make a better future for children. Despite our efforts, thousands still don’t have access to what they need to thrive.
- Child neglect, defilement and domestic violence are among the top 10 leading crimes in Uganda
- 70% of children in upper primary and lower secondary report physical violence
- 12% of young girls in Uganda get married at 15 years of age
- 57% are married by the age of 18.
Support our child
protection programs
Being safe is something that many of us take for granted. Yet sadly, millions of children around the world are in danger of abuse, neglect and exploitation.
With your support we are working to protect children from harm at home, at school and in the communities where we work.
Our approach to child protection
We don’t just work to keep children free from dangerous situations, we also actively work to reduce poverty and social stigma that often lead to atrocities against children such as abuse, child labour, neglect and child marriage.
Ending Violence Against Children
Every child has the right to live and thrive in a safe and caring family environment, free from all forms of violence. But for hundreds of children where we work, abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence is a daily occurrence.
Ending Sexual Violence Against Children
Sexual violence against children is a gross violation of children’s rights. It can take the form of sexual abuse, harassment, rape or sexual exploitation through prostitution or pornography.
Ending Child Labor
More than 2 million children in Uganda are reportedly engaged in child labor. The work is physically and mentally dangerous, and forces children out of education. We are working with businesses, communities and authorities to end the practice.
Ending Child Marriage & Teenage Pregnancy
Forty percent of girls in Uganda are married before they turn 18. One in four teenage girls over 15 have already given birth or are pregnant. These results are even worse in the rural communities where we work.
