BaNgaAfayo aims to provide services tailored to the needs of young parents. We aim to help young women and young men feel valued and positive about becoming a parent, so that they can have a positive experience and give their child the best start in life.
Approximately 20% of live births in Uganda are to mothers aged below 20. While some young parents have happy and healthy families, teenage pregnancy and early parenthood are widely recognised to be associated with poor health and social exclusion. Mothers below the age of 20 and their babies are more likely than older mothers to experience higher rates of infant mortality, low birth weight and poor emotional health.
Building confidence is the key for supporting young parents through the transition to parenthood.
